Work Permits
The work permit scheme is governed by Work Permits (UK), part of the Immigration & Nationality Directorate of the UK Home Office.
Work Permits are required for all non-EEA citizens who wish to work in the UK and those who do not have any other UK immigration status that allow them to work in their chosen capacity.
The work permit process is employer led i.e. an individual cannot apply for a work permit. Work permits are also company, job and location specific. There are six types of work permit arrangements, the most common being 'business & commercial'. Work permits may be issued for periods up to 5 years. After 5 continuous years of work permit approved employment, the individual may qualify for permanent residency.
