When Lyn left school she lived and worked in Croydon and used to spend her free time watching live music. Lyn started out working in the pensions industry on personal pensions and life assurance and ended up in the IT department, working on an interface group between end users and programmers and doing acceptance testing as well as working on Y2K. Lyn was there for 10 years and then decided she needed a change and packed it all in to be assistant manager of a pub and then to manage a pub. This was excellent for practicing her accounting, budgeting and marketing skills. After that, Lyn went back to pensions and financial services, working on Final Salary and Money Purchase schemes and then mixing in a little benefits and risk.
After a number of years, Lyn moved and started work in an HR Department, initially on the Recruitment team but then assisting the Generalist HR teams. In her free time, Lyn was volunteering to teach Duke of Edinburgh award to young people and eventually got persuaded to become a full time youth worker. This involved guiding and nurturing young people, helping with Youth Parliament but also involved organising events, training both young people and adults, liaising with internal and external agencies and going on trips!
Lyn moved again and looked for something a little closer to home. She ended up working for Migrate UK, where she is client facing but also able to do the immigration work. Lyn gets to use her experience of working in a regulated industry alongside her HR knowledge and customer services and people management skills. Lyn’s job is varied and no day is the same. Lyn is studying for her OISC level 1 and hopes to take the exam later this year.
In her free time, Lyn enjoys riding on her motorbikes, watching motorsports, playing on water (windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, dinghy sailing and falling in) and she likes reading fiction novels. Lyn is a bit of a foodie and loves cooking and trying new foods.
